Pumpkin seed oil
Pumpkin seed oil as well as
pumpkin flesh and
seeds are used in cooking as well as for medicinal purposes and in cosmetics.
The
pumpkin seed oil has a green-brown colour and it has a mild nutty taste.
As it has been carefully pressed, the oil retains many active substances.
It has a characteristic green colour and a recognisable aroma. It is a versatile and
highly nutritious food product which contains large amounts of
essential fatty acids, plenty of
vitamin E and
selenium. It is easy to digest and rich in vitamins and minerals, phytosterol and amino acids. It is also valuable for medicinal purposes.
Certain phytosterols contained in
pumpkin seed oil alleviate problems with the prostate and the urinary tract. Unsaturated fatty acids together with other active substances positively affect cholesterol metabolism. It also contains a very rare amino acid, cucurbitin, which effectively prevents tapeworm. The vitamins and minerals in the
pumpkin seed oil help with the excretion of water; they have a calming effect and balance the cell metabolism. Among the vitamins this oil contains the most
vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidant thus it slows down the aging process and lowers the risk of cancer.
However, it should not be heated.
